Meatless Mondays

I’m taking the plunge. I’m becoming a vegetarian. On Mondays. Lest you think I’ve made this idea up, I can assure you that  Meatless Mondays is a real thing and it’s as much about eating healthy as it is about the environment. I cannot even claim to be a trailblazer. Oprah has already done a feature on it. You know you are late to the party when Oprah’s done it!

So in honor of this momentous occasion and to celebrate, I plan to purchase a few items. Is there anything that goes better with vegetarianism than consumerism? Me thinks not. The items are mostly for the kids. (Ok, maybe one is for me disguised as a family item.) For starters, I’m ordering the baby this adorable veggie set. My friend, Alyssia, raves about this Etsy store. I cannot wait to see the bebe’s chubby hand gripping the tomato.

For my big kid I’m ordering a book called Herb the Vegetarian Dragon. As far as I can tell it’s about dragons and princesses and castles. Some of the dragons eat meat. Others eat vegetables. Both kinds of eating are OK. This is just the type of book we need in our house. Veggie husband. Non-veggie me. Meatless Mondays. It’s all apt to get very confusing for a 5 year old. Hopefully Herb (the vegetarian dragon) will help us explain it all. And for me, er, I mean for the family…

Meatless Mondays

I just brought home this adorable Cuisinart juicer in yellow. I just couldn’t resist. It’s my vegetarian present to the family. We’ll be giving it a test run in the morning. Recipe to come.

So… what do you think? Not of the juicer, silly. We know it’s gorge. What do you think of Meatless Mondays? And do you have any suggestions for what we should make?

Meatless Monday is a great idea I believe it will show kids that meat doesn’t have to be part of a daily food. My family and I are vegan and I’ve never felt better and never been in better health. Much love
