Swell Supper: Family Valentine’s Day Dinner

Swell Supper: Family Valentine’s Day Dinner

Hi, it’s Macki bringing you another Swell Supper. My fondest memories growing up are those spent in the kitchen with my sisters and mom cooking food and baking dessert together.  I think more than ever, it was during these cooking adventures that I experienced the most love, and passion (and frustration) and knew that these were the moments my family and I bonded the most, and still do when we get together.

While Valentine’s Day is traditionally a day to celebrate love between lovers, in our family we extend that love and affection to the entire family and what better way to celebrate than to cook a delicious Valentine’s Day meal together? For tonight’s swell supper we will be cooking up some love with Spaghetti Pie, Butter Lettuce & Garden Herb Salad with Valentine Heart Cookies for dessert.

Getting started: The Valentine heart cookie dough needs to be refrigerated for at least two hours so mix the dough either in the morning or the night before. Make a plan with your kid to bake and decorate the cookies after school. What kid wouldn’t love to rush home and make cookies, especially as a Valentine’s treat for the family? After your cookies are finished it’s time to start the spaghetti pie. Prepare the pie according to the recipe.

While the spaghetti pie is baking make the butter lettuce and garden herb salad. My kid loves to pick the leaves off the stems and wash them. Once the salad is finished there should be just enough time to set the table and make it look extra special. Time to serve your special Valentine’s Day dinner. Now doesn’t that sound swell?
