Cheddar Cheese Braids

Hi! Heather the babysitter here bringing you another babysitter friendly snack. I love cheese. I have a weakness for cheese-related snack foods. These types of snacks are very common in the houses where I’ve babysat. I have a particular fondness for Cheez-it’s. I’m not proud of it, but I won’t deny that I’ve probably finished off an entire box (sorry Rebecca).  I can’t remember babysitting at a house that didn’t have some kind of cheese snack (nor would I want to). But the point is that kids must love this stuff as much as I do. So, we should make something equally irresistible at home.

Cheddar Cheese Braids

Using puff pastry and some shredded cheddar cheese, we quickly whipped up a mouth watering snack. And there is so much for a kid to do. Kids can use the pizza cutter to cut the pastry into strips. And this is a great opportunity for kids to practice their braiding skills!

Sprinkling the cheese on top of the braids is a fun activity too. Be sure to put as much on there as you can fit to insure extra cheesy flavor!  These smelled so good in the oven, even the baby couldn’t wait to try them when they came out. Now for the recipe…

Cheddar Cheese Braids

Prep Time: 10 minutes Cooking Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients:

2  square sheets frozen puff pastry, thawed
1 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
1 egg
1/4 cup water

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.  Using a pizza cutter, cut the puff pastry into strips and cut the strips in half. Using three strips, braid the dough into 6 inch long braids. Place braids on a silpat covered baking sheet. Make egg wash by whisking together egg and water in a small bowl. Using a basting brush, brush the braids with egg wash until they are shiny all over and sprinkle generously with cheese.  Bake in the oven for 15 minutes, or until beginning to brown. Let cool slightly before eating.

These look so yummy! Not to mention there are only 4 ingredients? That’s under my 5 ingredient maximum, ha.
