Snack Time: Baked Apples
What you are looking at is a s’mores baked apple. There’s chocolate, graham cracker and marshmallow baked inside this delightful treat. As if that wasn’t good enough, we also made one with brown sugar, cinnamon and marshmallow. Now before you go off thinking this is an unhealthy snack, hear me out! It’s not THAT bad for a treat.
For the s’mores stuffed apple we used 1/2 a smore’s candy treat (about 35 calories) and one large marshmallow (22 calories) and a small apple (approx 55 calories). When you think about it 99 calories for a decadent after school snack is pretty awesome.
For the s’mores candy I used these brand new treats from Trader Joe’s. You could do the stuffing yourself with a graham cracker, chocolate chips and marshmallow.
We also stuffed another apple with cinnamon, brown sugar and a marshmallow on top. I really don’t know which one I liked better.
My kid was very into the stuffing process and very definitive about liking the cinnamon sugar one best. Now for the recipes…
Baked Apple Recipes
Prep Time: 10 mins Cooking Time: 45 mins

(alternatively use 1/2 graham cracker crumbled + 5 or 6 chocolate chips)
1 large marshmallow
Cinnamon Sugar Baked Apple Ingredients:
1 granny smith or gala apple
1 tablespoon brown sugar mixed with 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 large marshmallow
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Core apple leaving the bottom intact. Peel 1/3 of the skin from the top of the apple. Stuff one apple with the s’mores treat leaving room at the top to push a marshmallow in. Stuff one apple with cinnamon sugar leaving room at the top to push a marshmallow in. Push one marshmallow into each apple and place standing up in a small baking dish. Pour some water into the bottom of the baking dish (about 1/2 inch) and bake for 45 minutes or until apples are tender but not mushy. Split open and serve warm.
