Dressed Up Cream of Wheat
This week it occurred to me that my kid had never tried cream of wheat. I can’t really explain why; especially since this was a staple of my childhood. So, I bought a package of Bob’s Wheat Farina and introduced it to my kid this morning. Of course we garnished it with the works: brown sugar, honey, almonds and dried cranberries. What’s not to like?
- Bit of brown sugar.
- Squirt of honey.
- Sprinkle of Almonds.
- Dressed Up Cream of Wheat!
I guess I had forgotten a) how easy it is to make cream of wheat and b) how delicious childhood tastes. Luckily my kid really liked it too so we will be making it again very soon. Now for the recipe…
Cream of Wheat Recipe
Prep Time: 5 mins Cooking Time: 10 mins
Ingredients:
2 cups water
1/2 cup wheat farina
pinch of salt
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon slivered almonds
1 tablespoon dried cranberries
squirt of honey
In a small saucepan, bring 2 cups of water and pinch of salt to a boil. Remove from heat and stir in wheat farina. Bring back to a boil and then reduce heat. Stir until thickened. Pour into two bowls and divide toppings (brown sugar, almonds, cranberries and honey) evenly between the bowls. Eat immediately.

I love cream of wheat. It is our favorite "not in a hurry to get things started" breakfast.
