Crock Pot Applesauce
My friend, Kathy, who runs the beautiful blog Merriment Design [1] told me that she makes apple sauce in her crock pot. I had never thought of it before but it was sort of a DUH moment for me because it just makes so much sense.
As you know, I’m doing Baby Led Weaning [2] with the little one but no babyhood is complete without homemade applesauce so I decided that this is one thing she will be spoon fed until she is able to hold a spoon herself.
All you really need to make this is apples – and a slow cooker, but I confess I did use a some butter and cinnamon to make it extra delicious. It fills the house with that irresistible baked apple smell and tastes great warm. Now for the recipe…
Crock Pot Applesauce Recipe
Prep Time: 10 mins Cooking Time: 1.5 hours
Ingredients:
10 medium apples (peeled cored and sliced in wedges)
3/4 cup water
juice of 1 lemon
2 tablespoons butter, diced
cinnamon
Place apples in your crock pot. Toss them in lemon juice and dot them with butter. Add water and close crock pot. Cook on high for 1.5 to 2 hours or on low for 6 to 8 hours. Use back of a spoon to break up apples and stir in cinnamon to taste. Serve warm. Makes 8 servings.
Note: I made this unsweetened for the baby and we all liked it, but if you like your applesauce sweetened you can throw in a generous handful of brown sugar with the apples. Tastes great.
