Homemade Valentine Week: Sweets for the Sweet Jars
What’s Valentine’s Day without the candy?! We are big time candy lovers in this house, and my husband probably keeps most chocolate and gummy candy companies in business. Honey, we know your stash is on the top shelf in the top cabinet by the fridge. You aren’t fooling anyone. This valentine is for you.
We started by cutting a circle of paper around the jar lid, making sure the paper extended about a half inch larger than the lid. We then cut slits an inch apart all the way around the paper, stopping flush at the lid.
We covered an inch of the lid lip with glue and folded the first slit down over the lip tightly. We continued to do this for each slit until all the paper was covered down over the lid.
After helping her with the cutting and then showing her how to do one fold, my kid insisted on doing the rest all by herself.
She whipped through one paper covered Valentine lid so fast, I couldn’t clean the next lid fast enough for her to get started on another one.
Finally, we got to go Valentine candy shopping, which of course was the best part. Rule #1 in this house, always sample what you’re making! The sampling got a little out of hand and shh, don’t tell my kid, but I had to go out and buy a replacement M&M bag after I inhaled all of it in one night!

Sweets for the Sweet Jars
Prep Time: 5 minutes Hands on Time: 20 minutes
Supplies:
an empty jar with lid
fun paper (we like Target’s assortment of scrapbook paper packs)
mod podge or any basic craft glue
small paint brush
candy
ribbon (optional)
Begin by cutting a circle of paper around the jar lid, making sure to cut the paper about a half inch larger than the lid. Cut slits an inch apart all the way around the paper, stopping flush at the lid. Dip the paintbrush in mod podge. Cover an inch of the lid lip with the glue and fold the first slit down over the lip tightly. Continue to do this for each slit until all the paper has been covered down over the lip of the lid. Once the lid has dried, fill the jar with your Valentine’s favorite candy. Decorate with ribbon (optional).
