Hot Mulled Apple Cider
To a born and bred North-easterner, nothing says fall like a warm cup of mulled cider. The scent alone puts me in a good mood and the taste is divine. I’m going to make up a pot of it just before the Thanksgiving festivities start tomorrow. Can’t wait to sip it while we cook and the kids run around bundled up outside.
It will include all the standard mulling spices like cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg plus my secret ingredient – pomegranate juice. (Pssst! It tastes pretty great with a splash of rum too!) Now for the recipe…
Prep Time: 5 mins Cooking Time: 20 mins
Ingredients:
1 gallon apple cider (or unfiltered apple juice)
3 cups pomegranate juice
4 cinnamon sticks
1 1/2 teaspoons whole cloves
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
zest of 2 small oranges
Pour cider into a large pot or crock pot. Add spices and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to a simmer and let cook for at least 15 minutes. Stir occasionally. Let sit on the stove top on low until guests have arrived. When ready to serve, remove the spices and ladle into cups. Add a splash of rum if you are so inclined.
I absolutely love mulled cider. It definitely reminds me of the Holidays, and I'm sure the double secret ingredient (rum) would help calm the crowd
I like that rum idea!
I’ve never had mulled cider before. Looks good!
This is the only warm beverage I drink! Cannot wait to try your recipe.
The pomegranate juice sounds yum. We'll be trying this one soon- it might help us feel like it's fall here in sunny FL.
I've decided that mulled cider is not complete unless it has cardamom in it as well. I'll have to try pom juice as well.
