Perfect Afternoon Picnic & Govino Wineglass Giveaway

Perfect Afternoon Picnic & Govino Wineglass Giveaway

We are beyond lucky to live in a town that offers so many kid-friendly cultural events for free.  The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, or LACMA, offers an ongoing concert series on Friday evenings where the whole family can picnic and listen to music in the open air.

My friend, Robin, organized the evening and the group emailed back and forth about dinner ideas. I was so gleeful about the first picnic of the season that I volunteered to make just about everything. (Plus, truth be told, I hate to be the one in charge of drinks. Too heavy!)

I came up with a kid-friendly menu but as per usual, the kids did much more running than eating. As the sun started to set, their sniffers brought them right back to our spread in hopes of finding dessert. On the menu was…

Sesame Cold Noodles with Shredded Cabbage and Zucchini. The perfect make-ahead side dish that tastes even better hours after you make it. Mmmmm.  Peanutty and delicious.

Grilled Steak Sandwiches on Toasted Garlic Bread. We made the steak ahead of time too and stored it in the fridge. Then, we assembled the steak sammiches just before departing. For the vegetarians we made Caprese Arugula Sandwiches on Warm Baguettes.

For the kids we had fruit, our famous Caramelized Carrots (taste great at room temp) and we also baked up a batch of the best chicken tenders on earth. After our friend’s kid took his first bite, he turned to his mom and said “you gotta get these.” The adults dug in for a taste and could not stop eating these Bell & Evans tenders. Note: they must be baked (not microwaved) and need to be cooked for the full amount of time because they start out raw. That’s why they taste so freaking good. Great at room temp and perfect for a crowd of picky eaters.

Oh, and my favorite dish of the day: a veggie chop salad with Cary’s famous oregano shallot dressing. So good I could eat that giant bowl of salad all by myself. Picasso could not have made this more inviting and scrumptions looking and healthy to the body….what more could we ask for. The colors are also a perfect painting of spring. The glasses finish this picnic off with a nice light delicious wine.

A lot of the things you mention is astonishingly precise and it makes me ponder the reason why I had not looked at this in this light previously. Your piece really did turn the light on for me as far as this issue goes.
