Independence Day is right around the corner and it’s time to start firing up the grill and filling up those water balloons. My kid and I have been hard at work testing out July 4th recipes. Some made the cut (and the blog) and others wound up in the trash. But, alas, we’ve had an awesome time experimenting! Here’s what a Kid Friendly 4th looks like in our house. A shining example of how easy it is to make a a kid smile, these Festive Watermelon Stars are a simply cut from the melon with star shaped cookie cutters.

The main attraction are the Mini Hide & Seek Hamburgers. My kid just loved hiding the cube of cheese inside the patty and then later finding it when he took his first bite of the molten goodness.

Anything on a stick is an instant hit in this house. This Cheesy Corn on a Stick is no exception. Summer’s best corn is grilled, rolled in butter and then covered in Parmesan cheese (and cayenne for the more sophisticated palette). Devoured in an instant.

There’s nothing quite like a cool glass of Fresh Strawberry Lemonade to wash it all down on a hot summer’s day. Better make a double batch.

When it comes to dessert at a BBQ, we always double up. Who can choose? For the kid in all of us, these homemade frozen Gummy Fruit Pops refresh and delight by combining two of the worlds best kids foods: popsicles and gummy candy!

And for the grand finale, the best dessert ever. S’mores. Well, actually, S’mores Bars. Just as good as regular S’mores only better.
