Perfect Popovers

This popover recipe, compliments of Ina Garten, is simply perfect. The popovers rise an incredible amount and release the most amazing steam when opened. My kid is crazy for the taste and thinks watching the steam escape is magical. He asked to open every single popover in the batch… he’d eat them all too if I let him!

Prep Time: 8 mins  Cooking Time: 30 mins

Ingredients:
1 1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1 1/2 cups flour
3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
3 extra-large eggs, at room temperature
1 1/2 cups lowfat milk, at room temperature

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Place 2 popover pans in the oven while preparing batter. Meanwhile, whisk together the flour, salt, eggs, milk, and melted butter until smooth. The batter will be thin. Remove the popover pans from the oven and generously grease with cooking spray. While the pans are still hot, fill them until they are just less than half full and bake for exactly 30 minutes. Do not peek or they may fall!

Picky eater tip: try telling your kid there’s a surprise inside and watch his face light up when the steam escapes.Print Post

Putting the pan in the oven first is the best trick! The popovers turn out right every time.

Yum – definitely trying these. Do you find yourself telling Gus not to touch the hot pan every 10 seconds when cooking with either a fry pan or a hot baking pan like this?

These seem too good to be true! Can it really be that easy? Man, I'm gonna be busy this weekend. Step 1: go buy popover pans!

I had no idea popovers were so easy to make! Can't wait to try these and a few other recipes soon with my picky 4 yr old. Maybe I'll try serving these with some strawberry butter like the popovers they serve at Nieman Marcus's Zodiac Room.

If you don't have a popover pan, will a cupcake pan work instead?

these appear to be very similar to what are known as yorkshire puddings in the uk. i like your idea of putting cheese and dill in them to make something other than a side for a roast dinner.

What a data of un-ambiguity and preserveness of valuable know-how regarding unexpected emotions.
