Snack Time: Cinnamon Sugar Popcorn
Do you see that happy face? That is a direct result of popping popcorn in a giant pot on the stove top instead of microwaving it. I had no idea this would be such a thrill, but it truly was.
A few rogue kernels escaped when we were making it in this giant pot. Oh the squealing that ensued!
While the popcorn was still warm we gave it a good dusting of cinnamon and sugar and then stirred it up. It came out tasting a lot like kettle corn. So easy and so dee-lish! Now for the recipe…
Cinnamon Sugar Popcorn Recipe
Ingredients:
1/2 cup organic popcorn kernels
vegetable oil
2 tablespoons granulated sugar mixed with 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Pour oil into a large pot until it covers the bottom. Turn the heat on medium and pour in the kernels. Cover loosely leaving room for steam to escape. Once corn starts popping, shake the pot a few times to make sure it’s popping evenly. Turn the heat down and immediately remove from heat when popping slows down. While still warm transfer popcorn to a large bowl being careful to leave any unpopped kernels in the pot. Shake cinnamon sugar mixture onto popcorn and stir together. (It’s important to do this while the popcorn is still warm.) Serve immediately.
Sweet popcorn is a great idea !
So easy and so yummy!!!!
I grew up helping my dad make popcorn on the stove – we have a whirly gig where you crank the handle and it stirs the popcorn. I have such fond memories of this, and the inability to eat microwaved popcorn!
Popcorn is our favorite after school snack. Once I started making it in a pot I couldn't tolerate microwave popcorn anymore. I find it's just as quick and there's less trash.
That first photo is the best! I love it.
This looks yummy … love the photos.
Now I want popcorn! This sounds so yummy. I can hardly wait to try it.
I'm definitely making popcorn today! My kids would love this as an afterschool snack.
Love the first picture. Awesome idea!
My family loves popcorn! Can't wait to make this!
Yum! We taught our cub scouts how to pop corn on the stove last night This will be a fun recipe to try!
Please tell me you have some of this in your purse right now.
I don't even like popcorn, but this looks yummy.
oh yummy! great idea on adding something so simple to popcorn!
oh I love homemade popcorn! I have recently really gotten into it. Every time we sit down to watch a movie we either pop some on the stove or in our little air popper. We always drench it in butter and salt.. which is so bad for you…. but SOOO good.. but this looks really tasty! and is a little less fattening I'm going to have to try this.. I can't wait!
Now that I have made the chick peas and baked apple with great success, we need to give this a try!
what? no pita chips with white bean dip?
I second Jenni's comment. I also have a Whirley-Pop and love it. The popcorn always comes out so fluffy with only a few dud kernels. I've even found I can make kettle corn in it by adding a little sugar halfway through the popping. Toss with salt when its done and…Viola!
I love that you can make such a yummy snack with non-processed food.
My daughter loves popcorn…and with something sweet, she will love it more! Great idea!
I have been dying to make popcorn the old fashioned way, now I have motivation!
I haven't had lunch and man that sounds good just about now.
what a great way to dress up popcorn

We have popcorn once or twice a week so this recipe will come in handy.
I love kettle corn, but I have never tried adding cinnamon. I will now! Thanks!
We tried this recipe yesterday afternoon. I was slightly appalled to discover that my popcorn kernels had passed their "best by" date of 2008 (!), but it came out delicious nonetheless. Thanks for these snack recipes — I LOVE this series and I loved the lunch series. I would totally go for a whole book/blog/magazine just for lunch & snack ideas!

Though I'm not a popcorn fan, I know my daughter will LOVE this! She could eat popcorn every single day and never tire of it. We've never made anything but regular ole popcorn… this will be in our house today!
And… I have to say I love that Buzz loves it too! My kids are now teenagers, but Buzz is still popular!
This sounds wonderful, but I'm wondering — we usually use our air popper, which does not use oil. Do you need the oil to help it coat and make the cinnamon/sugar stick? Thanks for sharing!
[...] On special occasions we have a family movie night that we spend all day discussing and prepping for. My daughter likes to turn the couch into a fluffy, pillow-y mound and cover us all with a giant blanket while we snuggle underneath. Someday I want to get one of those projectors and set it up in the backyard and invite friends over for one big family dinner and a movie night. Hey a girl can dream, right? For now, we love our cozy couch. We take our meal planning seriously and decided, well our mouths decided from the amount of drooling going on, to serve Oven Baked Turkey Chili Cheese Dogs with Nutty Caramelized Cauliflower, and what better treat to serve with our movie than Cinnamon Sugar Popcorn?
